Surviving Transphobia

Surviving Transphobia

“We have survived; here’s how. And if we can survive… so can you.”

The trans and nonbinary community is under siege. Surviving Transphobia (www.SurvivingTransphobia.com, Jessica Kingsley Publishers, September, 2023) is an anthology of 16 prominent trans and nonbinary people all writing about their own experiences of transphobia – familial, workplace, cultural, internalized transphobia, and more. We share the moments when we were vulnerable, were bullied, had needs dismissed, or were discriminated against, revealing our determination along with how we have (sometimes) managed to survive, and, with luck, find joy.

We also relate our thoughts on the current, well-funded campaign threatening our very existence. Surviving Transphobia is a book of resistance, of defiance, and of our refusal to be silent when outsiders would see us returned to the shadows, the closets, or worse.

And we speak to our allies, those nearer or even those with less direct connection to transgender and nonbinary people but who are curious to understand and hopefully to support our vulnerable community.

Available in paperback and ebook.
