Psychotherapist
Whether you’re cisgender, straight, and vanilla, or far beyond the bounds of cisheteronormativity altogether, I am here for you.
Regardless of your gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, lifestyle or desired lifestyle, you deserve culturally competent, compassionate, skilled, and affirming healthcare. Too often, we have been compelled to justify our lives to doctors or therapists, or we have had little choice but to see a provider who lacked even basic knowledge of gender and sexual diversity.
We all have stories of being shamed and discriminated against, when we’ve felt infuriated at being forced to educate medical, mental health, or other professionals about our lifestyles. Every one of us has felt objectified when asked invasive questions about our bodies that were not relevant to our need for treatment. You and I know that your broken wrist is not trans related.
Body autonomy is a fundamental human right; how you use or modify your body is up to you.
I provide nonjudgmental, client-centered psychotherapy in which we can ask questions and help you make conscious decisions about your life, while simultaneously investigating issues of existential meaning. I incorporate intersectional, trauma informed, strengths based practices, and mindfulness techniques when appropriate. My hope is that we form a warm yet professional bond to facilitate our work.
I work with individuals age 13 or older and their families. All sessions are online via Zoom.
“[According to the mystical poet Rumi,] the body is not an obstacle on the way of the soul. It is a tool to be used for that journey.”
“Thank you for holding my hand for the last six years [of trauma therapy]; I would never have gotten to this place without you.”
"Laura’s just such a badass. I just realized how much Laura has done and I just whine to her about ‘my dad is mean to me.’” [Said playfully.]
“How fucking wonderful that I have you as a therapist. I’m in awe of how grateful I am.”
“It really aids my therapy that you understand my Star Trek references. I feel confident discussing concepts in a shorthand that we both understand… I feel you appreciate who I am.”
"If I'm becoming someone who is starting to like [much less hateful music and is becoming more compassionate], things must be going in the right direction."
Please share a bit about yourself and we can discuss whether I might be the therapist for you.
“I feel much more balanced than when I first started seeing you.”
